best cure for bad breath besides brushing teeth?
i brush my teeth every morning and night and before i go out places. i use colgate total advance whitening, but after an hour or so after i brush i start to get bad breath. i try to use tic-tacs and they do work but i don’t want to have to rely on them. i have also tried switching toothpastes but changing them doesn’t make a difference. another factor here is that actually i HATE mint and i HATE gum, a little weird yes i know, and the only mint i ever use is that toothpaste. nothing else. Help please!

Actually the major cause of bad breath is the top of the tongue, not the teeth where bacteria grow and produce those bad smells. Mints, gum, mouthwash and even tootpaste will cover up your bad breath for a short time but these products do not get rid of bad breath because they do not get rid of the bacteria that cause it. I leaned this when I learned about OraBrush tognue cleaner 6 months ago. I now clean my tongue every time I brush my teeth and can have fresh breath up to 12 hours. I am still using the original OraBrush I got 6 months ago.

mouth wash
do you see the dentist regularly? you may have gingivitis which causes bad breath.
make sure to be brushing your tongue. most of the bacteria that causes bad breath harvests around your tongue. make sure you are also flossing! try using mouthwash, they have special kinds for bad breath. when you have bad breath out in public, drinking cold water helps, too.
Smartmouth mouthwash works wonders. It comes in a box, which contains two solutions.
It tastes terrible by itself, so mix it with another mouthwash.
floss them teeth and scrub that tongue! specially the back of it….
I hate mint too, but i heard that dentists do this procedure that they use this instrument to scrape the bacteria off your tongue which causes bad breath.
First, go to a dentist for a cleaning. They have tools for removing tartar and plaque that you do not. When you leave the dentist’s office, you’ll have a clean slate, so to speak. After that, it’s up to you to maintain it.
Brush at least twice a day after meals. Sometimes I brush more often if I eat something really nasty like a candy bar, but I typically keep it to two times a day, which has worked for me.
Don’t brush hard — you don’t have to go crazy. Daily accumulation doesn’t require force to remove. If you brush too hard you will give yourself gum recession. I and other people I know have done this. My periodontist (a "gum dentist" who surgically fixes such problems) told me that all the force that’s required is applied by holding the toothbrush between the tips of your thumb and first finger. Nothing else touches the toothbrush. Ever.
The previous respondent’s recommendation to brush your tongue was well-intentioned but won’t accomplish much, aside from mashing odor-causing bacteria deeper into your tongue. What you need, and what everyone should use, is a tongue scraper. It’s a ridged piece of plastic that you drag across your tongue. You’d be surprised at the nasty crud that comes off a tongue at the end of the day, even for someone with impeccable oral hygiene. My dentist said that most of the bacteria found in the mouth lives on the tongue, so you cannot overlook tongue scraping and expect to have good breath.
Floss every time you brush. What’s the point of cleaning the back and front of your teeth if you’re not cleaning in between? Plaque smells bad no matter where it is. Don’t get cheap with the type of floss you use, or you might find yourself sawing into your gums with something resembling fishing line. I recommend Crest Glide.
Use a mouthwash every time you brush. Make sure that it has the word ‘antiseptic’ displayed prominently on the front. Not all mouthwashes are antiseptic.
Don’t make this regimen a race to see how quickly you can get it done. You get what you put into it.
Apple Cider Vinegar can be used as an effective mouthwash that provides long-lasting relief from bad breath. Simply dilute 1/2 tablespoon of the vinegar into a glass of water and gargle it in your mouth for 10 seconds at a time. More useful remedies at https://sites.google.com/site/dentalinfosite/bad-breath
