Bad breath or Halitosis can be described as an unpleasant, disagreeable, distinctive, or offensive breath odour. A person who has bad breath may not be aware of the odour.

You are right, most people can not smell their own bad breath. On the website http://www.orabrush.com they have a page of ways you can smell your own bad breath, such as lick your wrist, let it dry and then smell your breath. Look at that page for other ways. In addition, most bad breath is caused by bacteria on the top of the tongue which can be seen as "white stuff", especially on the back of the tongue. This white stuff must be cleaned off in order to cure bad breath. Mints, gum and mouthwash will cover up bad breath for a short time but they will not get rid of bad breath. I have used OraBrush tongue cleaner for several months with great results.
no you cant, lick your hand and blow on it, yeah thats what your breath smells like.
There’s really no excuse for bad breath (unless a person has some kind of medical problem that affects oral health) & it’s really not difficult for a person to know if they have bad breath – their mouth’s right under their nose. . .
yes

Go to Doctor Katz website
You can try this simple test. Clean the inside of your wrist then lick it and wait 4 seconds then smell it. If you don’t like what smell you know you have a problem.
Common causes of bad breath also known as halitosis are:
Dehydration in other words not enough water in your body. We all have bacteria in our mouth they are required by the body to pre-process food before it passes to the stomach. Generally those bacteria prosper on protein rich foods, so reducing for instance the quantity of meat consumed and replacing it with fruit and plant products is beneficial and lessens bad breath and is at the same time good for your general health. The bacteria are anaerobic, which literally means without oxygen, and saliva provides oxygen, so a scarcity of spit encourages growth. Spit can be reduced if you breathe thru your mouth for instance when you sleep or exrecise. Other mouth drying activities include missing meals, drinking alcohol and not drinking enough water to remain hydrated.
Other causes are gum or tooth disease, Intestinal/ stomach disorders, yeast infections, use of certain medications, stress consuming foods such as onions, coffee, garlic and protien rich foods such as red meat.
