I have bad breath all the time. I brush my teeth twice a day for about 2 minutes and i floss. but after half an hour, my breath starts to smell bad. Gum only helps for a short time.
Is there anything i can do to stop it once and for all?
I also have braces, if that contributes to the problem.

Yes, braces can contribute. Try using a tongue scraper. Recent studies have shown that some types of chronic bad breath is caused by a specific bacteria that lives on your tongue.
Mouthwash.
Brush your tongue, too.
Try Smart Breath. Its like a mouth wash the comes with two bottles that pump in a little cup before using. You use it twice a day. My husband just started using it and it WORKS.
Get an interfacial tooth brush to help brush around the braces as they can keep the bacteria in, i am in england and you can get something to help called Corsodyl its a Chlorhexidine digluconate, it’s an anti-bacterial solution, its kills all the bacteria in the mouth and gets rid of any gum diseases so it should help with any germs lurking in your mouth.
You may also have halitosis, which is the medica term for bad breathe, and your dentist should be able to prescribe something for you for this condition, carry on with your oral hygiene as you sound like you are doing the right thing, remember to brush your tongue, cheeks and gums as well as they can carry alot of bacteria too.
I was a dental nurse for 10 years so i hope i have helped you , good luck and hope you get the problem sorted.
Although your dentist may not approve of the idea of trying to treat bad breath with a natural remedy, the fact remains that it may still be very effective. Because we are inundated with so many foods and products made with harsh chemicals and laboratory creations, sometimes the body rejects modern medicine and develops an allergic reaction. However, because bad breath can be very embarrassing and create social anxiety, the fact remains that the problem must be treated. If you don’t like using products made with chemicals or simply have allergic reactions when using bad breath treatments created in factories and labs, maybe it is time that you try some natural remedies for your halitosis.
While many natural remedies are not as “potent” as many of the lab creations available on most shelves for treatment of bad breath, this typically only means that they may take a little longer to be effective. When trying to find a natural remedy for your bad breath problem, there are two basic qualities you are looking for:
* Boost immune system performance
* Help fight/control anaerobic bacteria
The single biggest cause of bad breath is anaerobic bacteria. These harmful microbes literally live in the crevices and cracks of your mouth. Feeding upon food particles and even dead skin cells, these microbes also produce waste known as Volatile Sulfur Compounds. The three most common compounds known to be responsible for a bad breath problem are:
* Dimethyl Sulfide
* Methyl Mercaptan
* Hydrogen Sulfide
These compounds are considered volatile because they become gaseous almost immediately and thus produce the odors associated with bad breath. Saliva naturally helps control the anaerobic bacteria because it helps wash away these sulfur compounds every time you swallow along with the food particles that the bacteria feed upon. Plus, enzymes within saliva help produce antibodies that destroy the microbes and help maintain a reasonable population in the oral cavity.
The trouble with many “scientific” lab concoctions used in many bad breath products is that they tend to cause dehydration which lowers the amount of saliva available for bacteria control. In addition, chemicals tend to cause a number of other side effects such as lesions on the soft tissue within the mouth. Plus, for bad breath in pregnancy, using natural remedies reduces chances of chemical side effects harming the fetus. For these reasons, you may very well be better off seeking bad breath treatment using a natural remedy, such as:
* Cinnamon Bark—boil this ingredient in a cup of water and use as a natural mouthwash that will help control bad breath without causing dry mouth like products made with alcohol
* Gargle with salt water—helps remove the sulfur compounds and reduce the bad breath smell
* Chew Mint or Parsley—chewing will help stimulate salivation while the mint or parsley helps sweeten breath

Niki S – Bad breath is often caused by anaerobic bacteria that live in the mouth. Things that will help:
1. Make sure you brush your teeth and clean your mouth thoroughly. Every morning and before bed : a) brush your teeth (and your gums and your tongue and beneath your tongue); b) floss your teeth and c) scrape your tongue.
2. After brushing, flossing and scraping use Hydrogen Peroxide as your mouth wash. You can buy hydrogen peroxide (3% in the brown bottle) at your local drugstore for about $2 for a 32 ounce bottle. Mix ½ ounce hydrogen peroxide with ½ ounce hot water and swirl in your mouth for about 1 minute (hydrogen peroxide is colorless, odorless and tasteless but it FOAMS and may sting your mouth a bit). Spit out (DO NOT SWALLOW) and then rinse your mouth out several times with cool water
3. In addition to using mints or gum, suck on zinc tablets (like Cold Eeze – use the sugar free). The zinc kills the bacteria that causes bed breath.
4. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day…not drinking enough water causes dry mouth which causes more bacteria to grow.
Hope that helps
first and foremost you must be able to know the causes of bad breath like tooth decay, disease in the gums, having dry mouth and dirty mouth, medications, eating a garlicky meal, having poor oral hygiene and stomach related illness.
it is always a must to properly brush and floss teeth every after meal for it can help remove plaque and tartar. the use of an all natural oral care product can best compliment your oral habits for it can keep the mouth salivated and hydrated.
have the habit to drink adequate amount of water to keep the mouth hydrated and keep bad bacteria in the mouth under control. have a regular visit to the dentist to check oral health status. for more tips to cut bad breath out of you visit http://www.oramd.co.uk
