Is it normal to have bad breath when you have braces?

When i was younger i had braces, and it was very hard for me to maintain fresh breath. I guess you could say i had bad breath everyday for those 2 years. I was just wondering is that normal?

Yes & no. Its common for most younger people to not keep up with their braces, although if you were, you shouldn’t have bad breath in general.
You most likely were not reaching posterior enough with your tooth brush and dental calculus/plaque was the result of bad breath. To avoid this you needed take extra caution to rid of all food particles stuck on and in between the brackets.
Hmm, thats odd. When i had braces i never had stinky breath. Its important to brush everytime after you eat something. Maybe that was your problem. Food easily will get stuck when youre chewing and it will be soft so you wouldnt be able to feel it.
