Why does chewing gum later give you bad breath?

yeah at the beginning it give you fresh minty breath but later on after like, i dont know, 30 mins or so you get bad breath.
Why?
Is there a way to prevent it?

Because the taste goes away. The flavor imparted gets diluted in the saliva. Keep on replenishing !!
Also, the gum itself doesn’t cause the bad breath…used up gum just does not mask it anymore.
